Dr. Kate Umble is a freelance musician, teacher and clinician based in the Philadelphia area. She recently moved from Kansas City, where she served as principal trumpet of the Northland Symphony and as an extra trumpet with the Kansas City Symphony.
Dr. Umble also performed with the Fountain City Brass Band, the Brookside Brass Quintet, the New Jazz Order Big Band, Bobby Watson's Concert Jazz Orchestra, and the Immanuel Brass Quintet. During her collegiate studies, Kate attended the Aspen Music festival, studied in the Czech Republic at the Janáček Academy, and traveled to Singapore and Ireland to perform with the International Youth Wind Orchestra.
Kate Umble holds a Doctorate in Trumpet Performance from the University of Missouri in Kansas City, a Masters of Music from the University of North Texas and a Bachelor of Music Education and a Bachelor in Trumpet Prformance from the University of Northern Colorado. Her primary teachers were Dr. Keith Benjamin, Professor Keith Johnson and Dr. Robert Murry.
In addition to her musical activities, Kate is also passionate about improving the lives of those in her community. In 2010 she served as a servant leader intern at a Kansas City "Freedom School" summer literacy program and also was part of a committee that created a free performing arts series to serve the Rosedale community of Kansas City, Kansas. She is passionate about music education for all ages!
